La Profesora Titular de Universidad María Olga Ruiz Pérez se licenció en Química por la Universidad de Valladolid en 1991 y obtuvo el Grado de Doctora en la Universidad de Burgos en el año 2000. Desde 1996, es profesora de Ingeniería Química en el Departamento de Biotecnología y Ciencia de los Alimentos de la Universidad de Burgos. La Dra. Ruiz ha desarrollado su actividad docente en diferentes titulaciones de la Universidad de Burgos, participando en los estudios en Ciencia y Tecnología de los Alimentos, en Química, así como en el Máster de Seguridad Alimentaria y Biotecnología. Ha participado en varios proyectos de innovación docente, es coordinadora del grupo de innovación docente GID-NUINGQUI desde 2013 (https://www.ubu.es/instituto-de-formacion-e-innovacion-educativa-ifie/grupos-de-innovacion-docente-de-la-universidad-de-burgos) y dispone de 3 tramos evaluaciones favorables en el programa DOCENTIA-“Evaluación de la calidad de la actividad docente” con calificación muy destacada A en el último tramo evaluado. Ha dirigido 4 Tesis Doctorales, alcanzando los doctorandos la máxima calificación, y más de 25 trabajos de investigación de fin de estudios de grado y máster.

Su actividad investigadora se centra en los procesos de separación para la recuperación de compuestos bioactivos de interés alimentario y químico mediante el uso de tecnologías sostenibles, así como en el tratamiento de aguas residuales mediante biorreactores anaerobios de membrana. Estas tecnologías emergentes incluyen la tecnología de membranas y la tecnología de fluidos comprimidos. La Dra. Ruiz es actualmente miembro del grupo de investigación Biotecnología Industrial y Ambiental (https://www.ubu.es/biotecnologia-industrial-y-medioambiental-bioind) reconocido por la UBU desde 2013 y de la Unidad de Investigación Consolidada UIC 128 de Castilla y León desde 2015 (https://www.ubu.es/unidad-de-investigacion-consolidada-uic-128-biotecnologia-industrial-y-medioambiental). Como investigadora, ha participado en 22 proyectos de investigación financiados por el Plan Nacional de I+D+I, el Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional, la FECyT y la JCyL. Su trabajo ha dado lugar a 28 publicaciones, siendo 26 artículos científicos de JCR en revistas de alto impacto, tiene 3 tramos de investigación reconocidos por la CNEAI y presenta regularmente los principales resultados en congresos y conferencias especializadas.

Dr. María Olga Ruiz received her degree in Chemistry from the University of Valladolid in 1991 and her Ph.D. from the University of Burgos in 2000. She is currently Associate Professor (PTUN) of Chemical Engineering in the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science at the University of Burgos. Dr. María Olga Ruiz has developed her teaching activity in different degrees at the University of Burgos such as bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology, bachelor's degree in Chemistry and bachelor's degree in Agroalimentary Engineering & the Rural Environment, as well as in the master’s degree in Food Safety and Biotechnology. She has participated in 2 teaching innovation projects and has 3 teaching five-year periods through the evaluation of the quality of the teaching activity (DOCENTIA programme). In addition to her teaching activity, she has been the academic secretary of the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science from 2016 to 2020. 

Dr. Ruiz's research activity focuses on separation processes by using clean technologies. These emerging clean technologies include membrane technology, hybrid processes, and membrane bioreactors. Dr. María Olga Ruiz has 3 six-year research periods by means of the evaluation of research activity (CNEAI), with the date of the last six-year research period being 31/12/2017. She is currently member of the research group Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology (BIOIND, www.ubu.es/bioind) recognized by the UBU in 2013 and of the Consolidated Research Unit of Castilla y León (UIC 128) in 2015. Along her career as a researcher, she has participated in 22 research projects financed by the national R+D+I Plan, the European Regional Development Fund, the FECyT and the JCyL. She has also participated in 7 contracts with different companies such as Mesoestetic Pharma Group S.L., Vegal Farmacéutica S.L., Bledeng S.L.U., Hiperbaric S.A., Empresa Municipal de Aguas de Córdoba S. A, and Campofrio Food Group, S. A. She has supervised 4 Ph.D. Thesis (date of defence: 2007, 2008, 2013 and 2020), all of them with top qualifications, and more than 30 master's theses and final degree works. It may be added that she has regularly presented the main results in specialised congresses and conferences (48 presentations, oral or poster). Her research work has resulted in 26 indexed scientific articles (ORCID: 0000-0003-0399-092X; https://investigacion.ubu.es/investigadores/35504/detalle), 16 of which are within the first quartile according to the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), yielding an h-index of 12 (SCOPUS: 35549276900).
